This temple, in the middle of Kyoto, on a street busy with shops near the southeast corner of the imperial palace grounds, houses a thousand-arm Kannon hibutsu that is shown once a year: opened on January 17, closed again the following day. Supposedly there are no photographs of it.

Gyōganji is one of the temples in the 33 Kannon Pilgrimage Route of western Japan.

This is the setting of the final scene in HIDDEN BUDDHAS.
